Commemorating its 50th anniversary, the iconic Indo-Jazz fusion band ”Shakti” – comprising legendary guitarist John McLaughlin, Indian Tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and percussionist V Selvaganesh – is touring India’s metro cities to enthrall the audience.
Commemorating its 50th anniversary, the iconic Indo-Jazz fusion band ”Shakti” — comprising legendary guitarist John McLaughlin, tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and percussionist V Selvaganesh and formed in the year 1973– performed after a 3 Years in Bangalore. The show was sold out completely and the audience, as per one of the attendees, comprised of mid to senior citizens. The event took place at Jayamahal Palace Hotel Grounds in Bangalore.
The band is going to perform in Delhi as it’s last city of the tour. Jawahar Lal Nehru is the venue for its Delhi’s show. It is produced by live entertainment platform Paytm Insider.
Shakti- The Fusion Band came into existence when the British virtuoso guitarist John McLaughlin and visionary tabla maestro Zakir Hussain connected in the early 1970s . With Hussain as percussionist, violinist L Shankar, and ghatam player TH ‘Vikku’ Vinayakram, McLaughlin founded the band and that gave the birth to the first Fusion Band ever. It got popularized with the statement of confluence- When East meets West.
The band is a perfect musical concoction of Jazz Rock, Hindustani Classical and and Carnatic music and the same has helped it to build a rich fan following across the Globe.
The Band post it’s completion of India Tour Performance is set to fly to Europe and US for shows lined up at multiple venues. In an interview before the Bangalore Show of Shakti, Ustad Zakir Hussain lauded the audience of Bangalore. He stated that the people here are rich in musical taste and have understanding of multiple genres ranging from Rock , Jazz to classical. As per him they know what is musically presented to them, are aware and enjoy the same.
